Beyond Textbooks: Igniting True Scientific Curiosity
Are you a homeschooling parent or microschool educator looking for science curriculum that goes beyond rote memorization? Many traditional science programs merely present facts and problems, leaving students disengaged and unprepared for the complexities of the real world. We understand the challenge of fostering genuine scientific literacy and critical thinking in an ever-evolving world.
LIIT-Wave Science bridges this gap. We empower students to **read, think, innovate, and transform** their understanding of science, equipping them with the skills to confidently address real-world challenges and ethical dilemmas.
Meet Your Science Literacy Guide
Eual Phillips, Jr.
With over 10 years of experience teaching chemistry and STEM disciplines, Eual Phillips is an award-winning educator dedicated to transforming science learning for diverse communities. He holds a Master of Science in Engineering in Bioengineering from the University of Pennsylvania and currently teaches in the Spring-Ford Area School District. Drawing on expertise in socio-scientific issues (SSI), literacy-based science instruction, and curriculum design, Eual creates learning experiences that connect scientific concepts to real-world challenges. His work equips students to think critically, solve meaningful problems, and see themselves as capable contributors to the scientific community.

Science for the Real World: Socio-Scientific Issues (SSI)
At the heart of LIIT-Wave Science is the exploration of Socio-Scientific Issues (SSI). These are complex, real-world problems that intertwine scientific concepts with social, ethical, economic, and political considerations. Instead of just learning scientific facts in isolation, students use science to understand and address dilemmas facing our society. This approach cultivates:
-
Critical Thinking: Evaluating evidence from multiple perspectives.
-
Reasoned Decision-Making: Developing informed opinions on complex issues.
-
Ethical Awareness: Understanding the "radiance and shadows" of scientific advancements.
-
Global Citizenship: Connecting science to their role in the wider world.
It's about empowering your child to be more than just a consumer of information; it's about making them an active, informed participant in shaping the future.
Igniting Curiosity with Science Discovery Narratives (SDNs)
Our curriculum integrates captivating Science Discovery Narratives (SDNs) – real stories of how scientists are overcoming challenges and making groundbreaking discoveries. These narratives bring science to life, making it relatable, inspiring, and deeply engaging. No more disengaged learners; just eager young minds!

Lead Contamination: A Local Battle
Explore the history and science behind lead contamination, focusing on real-world case studies and how communities use scientific data to address this pressing public health issue. Students investigate soil samples and map contamination, engaging directly with the implications for their own neighborhoods.
Delve into the fascinating physics of Euler's Disk, exploring concepts of rotational motion, friction, and energy dissipation. This narrative uncovers the beauty of seemingly simple phenomena and the scientific inquiry required to understand them.
Unpack the principles of gas laws and their direct relevance to environmental air quality. Students analyze data on pollutants, understand atmospheric processes, and explore innovative solutions for cleaner air in their communities.

Hands-On Discovery: Lab Experiments
The "Chocolate Microwave Fat Extraction" lab is a hands-on experiment designed to explore fundamental chemistry principles using everyday chocolate. Students will extract fat from chocolate using a simple microwave-assisted method. This process highlights how intermolecular forces influence material properties and how microwaves selectively heat components. Through observation and data analysis, learners gain insights into concepts like polarity and the Kinetic Molecular Theory. It's a relatable and engaging way to experience scientific discovery at home.
